![]() ![]() ![]() Many of my crafts have been fine during construction, testing, and launch, and after saving and reloading the game (which I needed to do frequently due to the various bugs) they would suddenly shake themselves apart. The craft will still fly (as the DV shown ticks up… what?) but this makes it nearly impossible to know how much fuel you have left, and therefore to plan your burns efficiently. Half the time using engine plates causes the craft’s DV readings to show zero. This makes setting up multi-node transfer burns (especially to highly inclined targets) nearly impossible. The closest approach markers only appear in very specific circumstances, jump around for no discernible reason, and disappear every time they get close to each other. Maneuver nodes are absolute hell to work with, especially when trying to set up encounters. This makes fine adjustments without snap nearly impossible. The speed at which the part moves in Offset is ludicrously fast and cannot be adjusted, even with the cursor speed options in the settings. Some examples - the Offset tool on Xbox is terrible. And as I learned the strategies needed to mitigate the first type of difficulty, it shed a light on the true, secondary difficulty of the bugs and inherent issues. But behind that is another difficulty - that which is caused by the undeniable brokenness of this game, especially on console. The first is the learning curve - understanding the orbital mechanics, building a stable craft, delta-v budgeting, etc. Everything, including my two-year-old daughter, started to take a backseat.Īs I learned how to play the game and learned more about orbital mechanics, I started to notice that there are actually two very different aspects of the difficulty of this game. For several weeks, the house took a backseat to KSP. I am a stay-at-home dad, so that means I would turn the game on around 9 when my wife left for work and turn it off again at whatever point in the afternoon my panicked mind could convince me I could still get my housework done. So when I find something that scratches that dopamine itch, I tend to fall into extreme hyper focus. Eventually I got pretty good at the game - pretty consistent 3600 dv Kerbin orbits, relay networks in several planetary systems, single-launch large space stations to Minmus and Duna, starting a mining operation on the moons of Jool - and the better I got, the more it sunk its claws into me. I had the usual initial frustrations about the learning curve and lack of helpful tutorials, but that passed. I had never played before, and it immediately captured my attention. I know this is a weird place to vent this, but no one in my personal life would understand what I’m going through, and I feel the need to be heard.Ī few months ago I downloaded the Xbox Series X version of the game and its DLCs. I really don’t want to be, but I have to be. Send us a message with proof, and we'll give you some flair to show it!
